Will upgrading reset my hard drive?

I am using Windows XP Home Edition, and I want to upgrade to Windows Vista Beta 2, but I can't lose my files on my local disk. Will changing OS's reset my drive, or will I be able to keep my files?

You're playing with beta software.
As a rule, always assume that the beta could delete all files on the disk.
Backup everything that is important first.

Replied to in vista.general. Posting the same thing in several newsgroups just makes it harder for folks who want to help you because it makes for a very fragmented conversation.
The gist of my response was, Do not install Vista on a production or primary home computer. If you overwrite XP Home with Vista plan on losing all files even though the upgrade is supposed to protect them. This is beta.
